Volunteer Application for Adults

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at SoléAna Stables. Our participants depend on caring, reliable volunteers, and we're excited to welcome you into our SoléAna Stables family!

**If you are interested in volunteering in our Therapeutic Riding program as a Sidewalker, please review the checklist below to ensure that being a Sidewalker is a good fit for you.** 

Sidewalker Qualifications

Sidewalkers play a hands-on role in supporting riders during lessons.  To volunteer in this position, you should be able to:

  • Walk continuously in the sand for 30-45 minutes alongside a moving horse 
  • Work calmly and patiently around horses and individuals with disabilities
  • Maintain good balance and steady footing in an arena and barn setting
  • Comfortably support a rider's leg with your forearm as taught in training
  • Receive and follow instructions from instructors during lessons
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with riders, staff, and other volunteers

Volunteer Expectations

  • Commit to volunteer at least one time per month 
  • Wear appropriate barn attire (closed-toe shoes and a volunteer t-shirt)
  • Maintain a positive & encouraging attitude 
  • Have conversations with the riders and assist with games and activities
  • Respect safety rules at all times 
  • Arrive on time for all scheduled lessons you sign up for
  • Notify staff as early as possible if you must miss a scheduled shift
  • Participate fully in the Volunteer Training session  

Volunteer Training Fee*

There is a one-time $40 Volunteer Training Fee, which supports the training, safety, and care that make our equine-assisted program possible, including our horses, instructors, and learning materials, and includes an official Volunteer t-shirt to be worn during each volunteer shift. We never want finances to be a barrier to volunteering—assistance is available upon request and handled with care.

* The Volunteer Training Fee supports our nonprofit mission and may be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law (excluding the value of the Volunteer t-shirt).

PATH International is the credentialing organization for accrediting centers and certifying instructors and equine specialists. SoléAna Stables abides by their strict safety guidelines while adding additional standards to further ensure quality of life for equines and riders alike.
